Sustainability
At Unicorn Awards 2026, sustainability is part of how the event is planned, delivered, and evaluated. From mobility and food to materials, waste, energy, and the positive impact left behind, the aim is to understand the event’s real footprint and identify where meaningful improvements can be made. Planet Positive Event, the official sustainability partner of Unicorn Awards 2026, will measure the event using its comprehensive sustainability methodology, combining environmental impact with social and regenerative criteria. The results will provide a clear picture of the event’s performance and practical recommendations for making future editions even more sustainable.
SUSTAINABILITY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR UNICORN AWARDS 2026
We invite all participants to help us make this event more sustainable. Small actions, when taken together, have a big impact.
Mobility
- Take the train instead of flying – and reduce your carbon footprint.
- By email, you have received a link where you can share rides with other participants to lower CO₂ emissions.
- Walk to the venue – you can reach Ljubljana Castle from several paths and burn around 120 calories.
- Hop on the funicular to reach the castle – it replaces vehicular traffic on Castle Hill, helping preserve its natural environment.
- Do you like biking? Hop on a Bicikelj from anywhere in Ljubljana.
Waste
- Produce less waste and recycle responsibly at the recycling points available around the castle.
- Bring your own cup for coffee.
- Avoid single-use plastic whenever possible and choose products with minimal packaging.
Water
- Drink tap water and refill your own bottle. Ljubljana’s tap water is clean, safe, and 225 times cheaper than bottled water.
- Turn off the tap immediately after use.
Energy
- Switch off lights when leaving a room.
- Unplug devices when not in use, avoid wasting hot water, and adjust heating or cooling mindfully—changing the temperature by just 1°C can save 10% of energy.
Food & Drink
- Choose seasonal, locally grown food, like the food from our catering provider.
- Prioritise plant-based meals and take only what you’ll eat to help reduce food waste.
Clothing
- Wear what you already have instead of buying new outfits for the event.
Digital First
- Keep your travel documents, agenda, and notes electronic—avoid unnecessary printing.
Respect & Awareness
- At the event, advocate fair play: be transparent, inclusive, and respectful of diversity.
- Support others by spreading awareness about sustainability measures and encouraging responsible practices.
- Share your positive experience and help us spread the word about our green story.
