Planning Your Trip to Ljubljana
We encourage you to travel to Ljubljana as sustainably as possible.
Travel by Train or Bus
Check estimated rail travel times here: Chronotrains Map
Compare total door-to-door travel time, not just time in transit. Flights often exclude:
- Travel to/from airports
- Security lines
- Boarding time
- Transfers into the city
Trains usually arrive directly in the city centre, which often makes them competitive, or faster, in practice.
From many cities in Austria, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Croatia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany, Ljubljana can be reached within or less than 10 hours in one day. If you are travelling from Sweden or Finland, you can take a mixed transport mode with a ferry and rail/bus (within 24 or 38 hours).

Travel by Car – Planet Positive Ride
Ljubljana is located at the crossroads of Slovenia’s most important road routes. Motorway access from any of the neighbouring countries is very easy.
If you are travelling by car, we invite you to use our Planet Positive Ride platform. It allows you to connect with other participants, share a ride, reduce travel-related CO←→ emissions, and make your journey more enjoyable.
All registered participants will receive a link to the platform by e-mail.
Travel by Plane
Ljubljana lies nearly halfway between Vienna and Venice, within a convenient two-hour flight from major European airports. Flights operate through Jože Pučnik Ljubljana Airport (25 km from the city centre).
Conference participants are advised to use shared transfers via the GoOpti shuttle service (providing transfers from Ljubljana, Zagreb, Trieste, Venice, etc.).
Mobility in the City
When in Ljubljana, we recommend getting to the conference venue as sustainably as possible:
- By bike or on foot: The best choice for those coming from Ljubljana. The city’s bicycle rental system Bicikelj has stations all around the city.
- By public bus: The bus stop closest to the funicular station is on Dalmatinova street, served by LPP lines 5, N5, 13, 20, and 20.
- By train: When arriving at Ljubljana railway station, you can reach the funicular station within a 15-minute walk.
