Filmmaster brought the 2026 Olympics to a spectacular close inside the Arena di Verona, earning two Unicorn Awards for their efforts – Best Grand Show/Spectacle Ceremony and Best Sports Event.
Conceived as Beauty in Action, the Closing Ceremony transformed the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site into a stage where opera, music, dance, cinema, technology and sport came together in a celebration of Italian creativity.
Held on 22 February 2026, the Ceremony was the first Olympic ceremony ever staged inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Working within the strict conservation requirements of the Arena, Filmmaster turned its underground spaces into a hidden backstage world, complete with the first lift ever installed in the monument, allowing performers and scenic elements to emerge directly from beneath the stage.
The creative concept began with a single drop of water, evolving into concentric elliptical platforms representing the cycles of nature and waves of energy spreading from the Arena across Verona and the Olympic host territories. The production also featured Roberto Bolle’s first-ever aerial performance, enabled by a bespoke flying system developed specifically for the historic venue.
More than 800 people worked across the creative and production teams, while the Ceremony reached 6.232 million viewers worldwide through Olympic broadcast and digital platforms. Sustainability was integrated into the production too, with costumes and scenic elements incorporating recycled and upcycled materials while the historic structure was preserved.
