European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad 2023 (EGMO 2023) received a Special Award for Best CSR Project, recognising its strong social impact and contribution to promoting women in STEM.
Held in Portorož, Slovenia, EGMO 2023 brought together young female mathematicians from across the world, offering them a platform to showcase their skills and develop their potential. The event was designed to encourage greater participation of girls in mathematics, while creating a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters confidence, collaboration and long-term engagement in STEM fields.
A programme designed for impact
Beyond the competition itself, the event delivered a comprehensive seven-day programme combining academic challenges, workshops and accompanying activities tailored to different participant groups. Its organisation required careful coordination, particularly in managing multiple parallel activities, logistics and communication, all of which were addressed through detailed planning, dedicated teams and digital tools.
EGMO 2023 stood out for its thoughtful approach to both innovation and execution. From creative accommodation solutions that ensure fairness and integrity to the adaptation of event spaces and a strong communication strategy, the organisers successfully delivered a complex international event with a clear purpose. The result was not only a well-executed competition but a project with lasting impact, inspiring young women and raising awareness of the importance of mathematics.
